إنشاء مركز التميز البحثي في المواد الهندسية بناء على مبادرة من وزارة التعليم العالي ، وتكمن رسالة المركز في تعزيز التميز العالمي في علم المواد الهندسية من خلال الأبحاث والبرامج التعليمية . ويؤكد على العلوم الأساسية والمواضيع الهندسية التي تعود بفوائد على المجتمع محلياً وعالمياً . يقع مركز التميز في كلية الهندسة بجامعة الملك سعود وتشتمل نشاطاته على الأبحاث في المواد المعدنية ، ودراسات الصدأ في المواد المعدنية والأبحاث في الطرق المستخدمة في المواد المركبة . ويعمل المركز أيضاً على الأسس العلمية في تصميم مواد جديدة إضافة إلى الطرق المستخدمة في إنتاجها.

Sponsorship of professorial chairs, training and support for researchers.
Support and cooperation for initiatives to broaden the awareness of science and technology within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Scholarships for graduate studies as well as co-op programs.
